About Us "Dreamers"
who started this website:
Instead of this being a typical
business page, we're going to do something novel... we're
going to tell you about us and why we are doing this.
First we didn't start this project to make a lot of money,
to get famous or any of that! Anyone who’s been involved
in a project like this or a non-profit can tell you it’s
a lot of work with little to no thanks. Because the truth
is, it’s not about us, it's about the project. So
lets start at the beginning...
On a warm summer Saturday morning in Orlando Florida, I
woke up to the sound of the Television on in the front room
and Franklyn talking back to the TV. As I stumbled into
the kitchen to get my much needed morning coffee, I heard
the music and realized it was the “LIVE EARTH”
concert that I had wanted to watch! How could we have known
that would be the turning point in our lives which brought
us to building this website and becoming Environmental Activists.
Franklyn an Internet Marketing Strategist, and myself Tina.
I would not describe myself as an overly aware consumer.
Of course I did the typical recycling of plastic, glass
and paper, and like most people, I thought that was enough.
I still find it hard to believe that society calls me an
activist, a middle aged homemaker from central Florida just
wanting to help stop this thing called Global Warming! When
I found out that Global Warming will eventually cause the
loss of some of the things that I find most Beautiful (Cypress
Forest, our beautiful glades, and mostly the BEACHES) it
shocked an alarmed me. How could I have not known this was
happening and at what level it was happening? Now looking
back I realized I was gliding through life not aware of
the problems that are facing us, our children, grandchildren
and so on. We learned all this from a Live Earth program
on an average Saturday morning. As if that wasn’t
enough of an awakening, the real shock was yet to come.
When we rented the DVD by Al Gore entitled: An Inconvenient
Truth, I got mad, kind of upset about what was happening
to our planet, so I wanted to do something, ANYTHING to
try and help to make it better. So I started thinking, what
could we do to make a difference? After all, Franklyn helps
big company’s to get their marketing messages out
on the internet every day. So I thought to myself why couldn’t
he help me in the same way! As any good partener would do…
I convinced him to help! At this point I think it’s
only fair to let Franklyn explain his own part in this website
and project…
Hello all. I'm the other half of this duel. I'm the gentleman
formerly known as Franklyn. On that Saturday morning I was
thrilled to find a program in HDTV and digital sound. I
had forgotten that I had programmed the satellite receiver
to automatically tune in the Live Earth concert that morning.
Just about the time I was getting comfortable on the couch
Tina came into the room to join me for morning coffee. We
spent the whole day together watching the concert and it
affected both Tina and I to the point we wanted to know
more. Now to say that we were affected by the information
was a fair statement. However, it was nothing compared to
the next day.
On Sunday morning after breakfast Tina and I went to blockbusters
to rent the movie An Inconvenient Truth. After returning
home and having some lunch we both settled in to watch the
movie. In truth I had seen quick little pieces of the movie
before while channel surfing. I really could not believe
that a documentary about a slide show presentation could
really be all that interesting. After all, in my work I
have to attend a number of slides show presentations and
so far none of which would make a very interesting movie.
So, when presented with an opportunity to watch a good sci-fi
or action movie on my high definition digital sound home
theater system, Al Gore's documentary didn't stand a chance
until that Sunday morning.
To say I was blown away, shocked, and disturbed was accurate.
However, Tina had a different and somewhat surprising reaction.
She was mad and disturbed and most of all worried about
her grandbabies and what kind of life they'll have because
of our and our parent’s decisions. She was mad at
our government, our society, and big business. She recalled
how as a child the car companies were saying that if they
were forced to comply with the Clean Air Act it would close
factories and drive good people out of work. Which was proven
to be false and if they hadn’t forced them to comply
our skies over our major cities would still be smoggy and
brown? She felt betrayed and mad and she was determined
not to take it anymore.
Now let me pause here for a second and mention something.
I've been with Tina for over 15 years, and over that time
I think we've had two quarrels. She was raised by a traditional
Southern family in the traditional way where women had little
opinion that differed from their husbands. She was taught
to tend to her duties as a homemaker and troubled herself
little with politics and other affairs. She literally belonged
to a time gone by. Where people believed in and trusted
their government and the company's they bought their products
from.
So imagine my surprise sitting across the dinner table
from this outwardly aggravated woman. Feeling like she had
some-how contributed to the downfall of modern society and
hurt the well-being of her future grandchildren. She made
it clear that she wanted me to help her to make a difference;
in the same way I had helped so many companies to influence
people the same way. At that very moment I was truly wishing
I had taken my uncle's advice and become a truck driver
so many years ago.
I know firsthand how big business operates and gets its
way both through advertising and lobbying. But like my Great
Aunt Rita used to say, "you gotta do what you gotta
do."
So the next morning I started my research to find out as
much as I could about Global Warming and how different segments
of the market handles and views this problem. I was nither
disappointed or surprised to find that all the same old
tactics were being deployed misinformation, and spin, all
the usual were being called on.
Well I know what we're up against and I don't think it's
a lost cause. As former Vice President Al Gore once said.
"As more and more people understand what's at stake,
they become a part of the solution, and share both in the
challenges and opportunities presented by the climate crisis.”
I do believe Tina and I can help make a difference. After
watching the movie and doing my research on-line I do have
a great deal of respect for Mr. Al Gore. Both in his personal
life, his political life, and his self-appointed mission
to wake us All up to the clear and present danger of Global
Warming.
